Pauline E Egan

Pauline Egan, 93, of Plattsburgh, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 at her home with family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Chazy on April 9, 1926, the daughter of the Manuel and Estelle (LeBlanc) DeCelle.
Pauline graduated from St. John’s Academy and the Plattsburgh Business School, and was employed as a secretary at the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge # 621 for many years. She was a parishioner of St. John’s Church, a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters, and a dedicated volunteer at Meadowbrook Nursing Home.
Pauline was known by several names; Mom, Grandma, Gram, and Gaga were her favorites. She loved to travel, with family trips to Disney topping her list. She attended any baptism, 1st Communion, graduation or other events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sunday Mass was a must, followed by stops at the candy store with the grandchildren, then coffee/donuts with the whole family. Pauline was known for family “Wednesday Night Dinners” she made for over 20 years. Her door was always open to family and she was up for visits, card games or to just sit and watch TV together whenever someone came. Hershey Kisses and M&Ms greeted any little (or big) hand that asked. There was no better table to sit around for holiday dinners, and no other living room family wanted to squeeze into on Christmas morning. Her yearly handmade Christmas ornaments for each family member will be forever cherished.
Pauline was also known as “Granny” by her adopted school family. She was a constant volunteer at St. John’s Academy (Seton) and church, volunteering for years with BINGO, harvest dinners, festivals, etc. “Granny” was known and loved by the staff and students she met over her decades of service. Pauline and Bob had their “coffee family” at the mall, visiting every morning at Auntie Anne’s for years. She also added to her “adopted family” the SUNY girls’ soccer team a few years back, and more recently the Holly Springs HS girls’ lacrosse team during her yearly stays in NC, one she just recently returned from.
Even those who had not met Pauline, felt like they knew her through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s posts on social media. The bright, sassy, funny spark that she had, was evident and enjoyed by so many and will be greatly missed.
Pauline was predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert W. Egan Sr., her brothers Gerard and Francis DeCelle, her sisters Rita Bouyea and Marion DeCelle, and her great-granddaughter Bryn Gardner.
She is survived by her children; Carol (Tom) Rennell, Diane (Don) Gardner, Thomas Egan, Robert (Darlene) Egan Jr., Nancy (Gary) Flick, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Due to the current pandemic, services will be held privately for the family. Interment will be in Mt.Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh at a later date. A public Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. John’s Church.
