Penny L Harriman

October 9, 1949 — November 20, 2022

Penny L. Harriman, 73, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the UVM-CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Salem, MA on October 9, 1949 the daughter of Roy and Phyllis Ramsdell.

Mom came from a large family of siblings totaling at eight! She had four brothers and 3 sisters, which she was the youngest of the girls in the family. Aunt Harriet, her eldest sister, was often looked at as a second mother to our mom and was often found supporting her youngest sister during those tough years when she became sick. Although she loved all of her siblings, Aunt Harriet and Uncle Ted, the third eldest brother, were by far her favorites.

Mom loved the beach and would often take us to Dane Street Beach in Beverly every summer. We would bask in the sun and swim in the cold Atlantic Ocean for hours on those hot summer days. She was a big kid at heart and would come outside just before dusk with Margaret and me, and play hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. Some of my favorite memories are of playing outside when I was really young, laughing and running with mom.

One of mom’s favorite singers was Elvis, she was a HUGE Elvis fan! She had collected many of his albums over the years as well as many “knick knack” items and images of her favorite performer. At one point when Margaret, I and Phyllis were young, she made the pilgrimage with her best friend to pay respect and tribute to the great singer at his Graceland Estate. Mom was a walker, she walked to get to everywhere and would often be seen with Margaret and me in tow (this was before Phyllis was born) going to the beach or to visit Aunt Cyndie and Uncle Ted. She grew up in Beverly, MA and once walked from Beverly to Gloucester Ma (around 12 miles) to visit Aunt Harriet one summer.

Penny is survived by her three children; Her eldest daughter, Margaret Belvil and her husband Joe Belvil of Chazy, NY, son Roy Harriman and his husband Anthony Foxworth of Allston, MA and youngest daughter, Phyllis Harriman and her husband Benjamin Mainville of Mooers Forks, NY. Penny is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Roy and Phyllis Ramsdell along with her 7 brothers and sisters.

Penny was cremated along with her wishes, and the family plans to have a celebration of life in the summer of 2023. There will be no public calling hours or services.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. (518) 561-3980. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
