Peter B. Guibord, 82, of Plattsburgh, NY passed away peacefully January 14, 2022 at the UVM-CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on April 18, 1939, the son of Richard and Imogene (Blackwood) Guibord.
Peter graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1958 and went on to attend Champlain College in Vermont.
Peter began his career in broadcast communications at WPTR in Albany, NY. He then owned and operated WKDR radio station in Plattsburgh and was known as the “Golden Voice of the North Country” for many years. His station was one of the official sponsors of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid. He and his wife Theresa were fortunate to have witnessed the “Miracle on Ice” game.
Peter also worked alongside his father, Richard at PLATTCO Corporation until 1985. He would then become president until 1999. He was also part owner of the Plattsburgh International Raceway, Metro Communications, and Adirondack Aquifer.
Peter was the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Post 13127 and the President of the Kiwanis Club for a number of years; two very important positions he held with honor and integrity.
Peter had many diverse hobbies; writing and recording local advertising jingles for various businesses, he produced records under his Empire label – most notably for Mike Brassard and the Ravens. He was an avid sailor and entered many Mayor’s Cup races and the Kent Delord Regatta; placing 2nd in the Racing Division of the Mayor’s Cup in 1995 and 3rd in the Kent Delord Regatta in 1988. He loved to ski, both water skiing and snow skiing. He was always up for a challenge and relished a rocky family boat ride or ferry ride on Lake Champlain. He especially loved the game of tennis, enjoying the competitiveness of his family in “all” matches. Peter’s interests were always current events in the political arena. His conservative values were well known amongst many. He enjoyed listening to his favorite talk show host, Rush Limbaugh and faithfully hung his American Flag out each and every day.
Most importantly, “Grampy Pete” enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many school and sporting events. Grandparent’s Day, “Go Knights” basketball, football, track, and his grandson’s “Panthers” high school football game in NJ were just a few of those special moments. Peter also treasured “Island Thyme” with all his family on Lake Champlain and “we” will always remember doing the many tasks bestowed to us from him.
Remaining to cherish Peter’s (aka Dad, Daddy, Peeta B, Pee Wee, Grampy Pete, Peter Clipboard, Peter Perfect, Pita Bread, some of his many nicknames) memory, are his dearest friend and love of his life, his wife Theresa, his children Lynne (Gene) Landis, Richard (Kathy) Guibord, Terri Hynes, Stacie (Jeff) Chapman, Yvette Durham, Robert A. Durham, Eric Durham and James Durham; his loving grandchildren Simone & Mark Shay, Kaitlin & Carson Hynes, Cara & Dana Chapman, Payden & Emily Durham, Kash & Claire Durham and Conor & Brittany Landis, one great-granddaughter, Lily Lesperance. Peter is also survived by his brother, Barrie Guibord, sisters Susan (John) Patnode and Debbie (Ken) Stay, brother-in-law Harold M Perry, and many nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Peter is predeceased by his parents, Richard & Mary Guibord, Imogene Blackwood, his brother Michael Guibord, beloved daughter Kerrie Guibord, and son-in-law Michael R. Hynes.
