Phyllis A Liberty

d. July 18, 2012

Plattsburgh Phyllis A. Liberty died peacefully on her birthday, July 18, 2012 at the age of 82, in her home at Pine Harbour in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her family, and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Phyllis was born in Plattsburgh on July 18, 1930, the only child of George and Bessie (Maloy) Graves, attended St. John's Academy graduating in 1948. She married the love of her life Joseph L. Liberty, Jr., always "Junior" to her, on July 26, 1948. They were one week short of celebrating 64 years of marriage. Junior and Phyllis built their home in Riverview in 1954, and resided there until July of 2011, when her health dictated the move to Pine Harbour, not an easy move for either of them. Phyllis raised five children, and was proud to be a "stay at home Mom". She was a fabulous cook, an excellent seamstress making many of the kids and her own clothes. She had a lifelong love of music, an accomplished pianist with a beautiful voice, she put her talents to work at the Assumption of Mary Church as the organist and choir director for 40 years. After Junior retired, they climbed into their motorhome to "see the country". They had great fun, and ended up spending many winters in Florida. Some of their most enjoyable times were spent camping at Buck Pond Campsite in Onchiota with daughter Julie, and her beloved poodle Smokey. As long as her family was around - life was good. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Ann Lawrence for the loving care and kindness you showed our Mom during the last two months, she grew to love you, as did we all. Also, thanks to all the staff of Pine Harbour for the care, support and friendship extended to Mom. And to Hospice of the North Country for making Mom's last few months comfortable, and helping us all cope with this most difficult time. You were wonderful, and we are sincerely grateful. Survivors include her devoted husband, Joseph; Daughters - Mona L. Liberty of Schuyler Falls; Kathy M. Collins and her husband, Michael D. Collins of Peru; Julie A. Liberty of Corinth, NY; Sons - Clark J. Liberty and his wife Susan of Plattsburgh; Paul D. Liberty of Malone; Granddaughter Vanessa Davies, her husband Matthew, and Great Grandson, Jeremy Davies, all of Plattsburgh. Phyllis was predeceased in death by her parents, and her half-sister, Marie West; half-brothers Clyde Graves and George Graves.
