Miss Phyllis L. Wells, 82, of Addoms St., died on January 23, 2012 at CVPH. She was born in Riverhead, NY on October 14, 1929, the daughter of Herbert T. and Ruth M. Wells, who predeceased her. Phyllis was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo, and received her master's degree at SUNY Plattsburgh. She was employed by Schoharie Central School from 1952-1953, Berlin Central School from 1953-1955, by Clinton-Essex Library Service System from 1955-1957, and by SUNY Plattsburgh as a cataloger at Feinberg Library from 1957 - 1987. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh, where she sang in the choir and was church librarian. She also held offices of elder and deacon. For a number of years, she researched and wrote historical articles for PULSE, the church newsletter. From 2001 she was the Assistant Church historian. Phyllis enjoyed walking, reading, photography, gardening, cross stitching, and local history. Research and writing was done for a book of historical sketches of Clinton County churches. She volunteered at the Interfaith Food Shelf. For many years she was a member of Clinton County Historical Association. In 1981 the Association awarded her the McMaster's history prize for the best paper on local history. The subject was the Peristrome Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh. Her biography appeared in the 1984-1985 edition of Who's Who of American Women, published by Marquis. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond L. and Shirley A. Wells of Cotuit, Massachusetts; a niece, Deborah Coutu, her Husband Christopher, and two sons of Cumming, Georgia; and a nephew, Peter Wells of Brooklyn, New York. Several cousins also survive.
