Randolph A., Randy' Leonard, Jr., 93, passed peacefully with family members at his side on Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at the Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY. He was born May 14, 1920 in Syracuse, NY to Randolph and Mary (Adams), Sr. Randy served his country honorably during WWII in Europe. He received his collegiate Bachelor's degree from the University of Mexico in Mexico, D.F. returning to the U.S. with spouse Conception Leonard. He later earned his Master's in Social Work from Syracuse University. Randy was a long time employee of the New York State Division for Youth as a counselor and a director. Randy was an active outdoorsman; a hunter and tournament fisherman. An avid weightlifting buff, he was a regular at several Syracuse gyms. This interest progressed into Power Lifting. He powerlifted well into his retirement years, participating in local, national and international tournaments. As a senior in his 60's and 70's he set several Master's American powerlifting records sanctioned by the U.S. Powerlifting Federation. During his later years his interest's included photography and horseback riding. He is survived by four children, Maria Toni' Longshore (Tom), Lucia Luci' Hensel (Ron), John Butch' Leonard (Mary), Jose Pepe' Leonard (Leeanne), siblings Glenna Powell, Francine Edwards, Noreen Malool, Jon Buddy' Leonard, Kita Cameron, Moira Irons and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Burial will be at the Onondaga County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse, NY.
