Raymond E. Desso passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 14 at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was 68. Born on June 30, 1943 in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the son of Ross "Bob" and Ruth (Caron) Desso. The family moved to Plattsburgh when Ray was a child. He graduated from Beekmantown Central School in 1961. He attended Champlain College, earning an associate's degree in accounting in 1963. Ray had a very successful 35-year career with Georgia Pacific Corporation, working his way up from junior accountant to senior accountant and retiring as controller of the Plattsburgh facility. He was widely recognized for his honesty, integrity and dedication to doing the right thing. Ray married his high school sweetheart, Sandra LeBlanc, on November 30, 1963. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 48 years; his son Brian, his wife Jody and their children Jacob and Rylee, of Peru; his son Mark, his wife Alita and their son Keith, also of Peru; and one brother, Tom of New Britain, CT. Ray and Sandy spent the last ten winters in Murrells Inlet, SC and loved the ocean, the sunshine, and the many new friends that came into their lives. An avid golfer both in the North Country and in the Carolinas, he was delighted to make his first hole-in-one two years ago. Ray enjoyed many sports, including racquetball and softball. He loved watching NASCAR races and always hoped the Red Sox would come through in the end. But Ray's first love was always his family and his favorite activity was spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday, November 18 from 4-7 p.m at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Beekman Street, Plattsburgh at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 19. Burial will follow immediately at God's Acre Cemetery in Peru. Donations in Ray's memory may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901, (518) 561-3980 Online condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
