Rebecca Clifford, 92, of Cedar Street in Champlain, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Adirondack Mountains of New York with family by her side. She was born in Fairfield, Maine on March 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Mable (Crockett) and Earl Lawrence Sr.
On January 29, 1949, Rebecca married the love of her life, Ralph Clifford and they had 4 children together, Janet Clifford Hunter, Steven Earl Clifford, Joyce Fry and Russell Clifford.
Rebecca’s love of cooking lead her to a diner in Fairfield, Maine, Bill’s Truck Stop and there is met her lifelong friend, Ann Maglaras. Together, they owned a restaurant named “The Eating House,” where her daughters, Janet and Joyce along with her two sisters, Iva and Elma worked. It always felt life home to enter the diner full of family. She loved to attend church and singing gospel and country western music with her sister, Ruth Buker and brother, Bill Lawrence.
She is survived by her sons, Russell Clifford and partner Maxine, Steven and wife Michelle Clifford, brothers, Earl and wife Carol Lawrence, Bill and wife Elaine Lawrence and several nieces and nephews.
Rebecca’s grandchildren could often be found by her side whether in Maine or New York. Stacey Boudreau, Matthew Clifford, Kasey Carpenter, Brian Clifford, and Benjamin Clifford, your trips to New York to visit were very special to her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Clifford, sisters, Iva Carter, Elma Mower, Pricilla Wing, Olive Carter, and Ruth Buker and brothers, Norman Lawrence, Floyd Lawrence, Colby Lawrence and Melvin Lawrence, and a granddaughter, Brandy Ratcliff.
There will be a graveside service in Maine at a later date. The family will complete her wishes by reuniting her with her husband, Ralph behind the family farm.
