Richard N. “Dickey” Bechard, 86, of Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility with his daughter by his side. He was born in Coopersville on March 6, 1933, the son of the late Alphonse and Corrine (Lareau) Bechard.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated G & G Tire in Plattsburgh with his brother Jack Bechard until 1995. Upon his retirement, his daughter Debbie Bruno and her husband Kevin Bruno, and Jack’s sons took over the business that the family has owned and operated since 1960. He was proud when his grandson, Matthew Bruno, became part owner of G & G Tire when Kevin Bruno retired. He would often drive by the Retread Shop on his way to Burger King for lunch checking to make sure that business was going well. He was equally proud of his granddaughter, Kara Bruno, for the strong woman and mother she has become.
He enjoyed hunting with his son- in- law and twin brother Kregg Bruno. In later years, he liked taking long drives to see his family home in Coopersville and day trips to the casino.
He was predeceased by a son; Dr. Jeffrey R. Bechard and two sisters; Gerry Baker, Carm Edick and a brother John “Jack” Bechard.
Richard is survived by a daughter, Debbie Bruno and her husband, Kevin of Morrisonville, his grandchildren; Matthew Bruno of Plattsburgh, Kara Bruno of Peru and two great grandsons; Oliver Melvin Hicks and Lukas John Hicks, his sisters; Ruby Martineau, Gloria Turner, Claudette Novara, June Trombley, Brenda Duquette and Donna Bechard, a brother; Glenn Bechard, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Meadowbrook Healthcare for the patience and kindness that the staff has shown them.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services with military honors will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Coopersville at a later date.
Memorial donations may be offered to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901(518) 561-3980. Online condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
