Richard Benware, 83, of Lafayette Street in Plattsburgh passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the UVM Health Network -CVPH with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Chasm Falls, N.Y. on December 1, 1939 to Charles Benware and Frances (Benware) Garsow.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alvelena Benware; his daughter and son-in-law Holly and Stephen Garrow; his grandchildren Kyle Garrow, Katie Martin and her husband Mathew Martin, Cody Garrow, and his great grandchildren Levi and Ella Martin; his siblings and their spouses Theresa and Freeman Supley, Joan Bushey, Joyce and Larry Minckler, Phyllis Gregory, Joseph and Debbie Garsow. Richard had a special place in the hearts of his extended family.
Richard retired from Plattsburgh Distributing after 43 years of employment. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was a man of many talents and had a smile that would brighten any room. Richard was a devout Catholic, a great dancer, and enjoyed Nascar. He enjoyed working with family in his younger days taking stock car engines apart and putting them back together for the next local race. Richard’s most cherished time was spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored.
No words can express the kind of man he was and how much he will be missed.
Calling hours will be held privately for the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later date.
