Richard M. Clukey, 88, of Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2022 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on April 17, 1934, the son of Edward and Beatrice (Fleming) Clukey.
Richard was a hard-working husband who often travel for work up and down the east coast. He was and amazing father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was very proud of the work he did over the years and remembered every building he ever worked in. He was part of the crew that built the viewing towers for the Lake Placid 1980 Olympics and he worked in the homes of two US presidents. He would often tell stories about treasure hunting on Oak Island looking for treasure. He often traveled from Daytona to Laconia motorcycle racing with his brothers and cousins. He went on many adventures hunting and fishing with his brothers and children. He has a thirst for adventure that never ended. In his 70s he started gold prospecting and drove across country to California but made sure he came back home in time for the birth of his granddaughter. Richard loved to travel with his family made 39 trips to Disney over the years and his suitcase was always packed and ready to go. In his later years he found joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild. Papa always had the best candy stashed in his chair side table. He will forever be known for the stories he would tell. His favorite being how he met his wife and their early years together. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Ruth (Desotell), their 3 children; Carol and husband Wayne Del Grosso, Richard Clukey, and Edward and Rosamaria Clukey, his 12 grandchildren: LilyAnne, James, Richard, Regina, Emily, Jacob, Amanda, William, Edward, Alexander, Christopher, Katerina, and great grandson Jackson.
He was predeceased by his parents and his daughter Tammy Collins.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 9:00-10:45am at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
