Richard A Golden Sr

Richard A. Golden, Sr., 90 of New Hampshire Drive, Plattsburgh, NY and formerly of Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, NY, passed away on Thursday March 9, 2017 at UVHN:CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on November 2, 1926 the son of Leo and Phyllis (Goodrow) Golden. Richard graduated early from Plattsburgh High School in January of 1945, allowing him to enlist in the United States Army to serve his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947 and soon after returned to Plattsburgh. Richard married the love of his life, Beverly Caple on June 19, 1948 at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. He graduated from Plattsburgh State Teachers College and soon after took a teaching job at a Junior High School in Kinderhook, NY. He left teaching to work for Metropolitan Life in Norwich, CT for over seven years. Richard transferred with Metlife to Plattsburgh and continued to work for them for two years. He was then asked by a former classmate at Plattsburgh State Teachers College to take a teaching job at Saranac Central School. He retired from Morrisonville Elementary after 27 years in 1990. After retiring, Richard volunteered at CVPH Medical Center where he enjoyed visiting and talking to people. He always had students that he taught many years ago talk about him with real affection. Many loved his teaching style and humor. He really loved teaching. Richard was predeceased by his wife Beverly Golden in 1998, his parents and a brother Robert J. Golden. He survived by four children; Patricia G. Stone and her husband Jerry of NC, Richard A. Golden, Jr. and his wife Jeannine of FL, Thomas J. Golden and his wife Christina of Plattsburgh and Michael J. Golden and his wife Beth of AZ, six grandchildren; Jeremy Stone, Joshua Golden, Erica Calderone, Chelsea Golden, Alison Golden and Matthew Golden, several nieces and nephews also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday March 14, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 10:30 am St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year at St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville.
