Mr. Richard B. "Rick" Knowles, Jr., 48, of South Platt Street, Plattsburgh, New York passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the CVPH Medical Center with family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York on October 17, 1963 the son of Richard B. and Geraldine (Burns) Knowles, Sr. Rick graduated from Plattsburgh High School, Class of 1981 where he excelled in bowling. He then went on to attend SUNY Plattsburgh where he studied Mass Media and Communications. Rick worked for WKDR Radio in Plattsburgh as the morning radio host. He also worked at Dannemora Ford before being hired as the Warranty Administrator at Bill McBride Chevrolet in Plattsburgh. Rick covered Plattsburgh State Hockey for many years on WEAV and recently he was the announcer at Airborne Speedway and hosted the Motor Sports Magazine television show on Public Access Television. He married the former Lisa Silver on September 3, 1994. Rick enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Eagles and the Buffalo Sabres. He bowled for many years and had two 300 games. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife watching his son play sports and cheering him on at games. Rick was also a volunteer coach for Plattsburgh Little League and City Babe Ruth Baseball. He is survived by his wife Lisa (Silver) Knowles of Plattsburgh, a son Robby Knowles at home, his parents Dick and Gerry Knowles of Plattsburgh, his paternal grandfather Gerald Burns of Plattsburgh, a brother Rob Knowles and his wife Nicole of Plattsburgh, a sister Becky Dreher and her husband Matt of Ballston Spa, his in laws, Mark and Betty Silver of West Chazy, a brother in law Mark Silver, Jr. of Cumberland Head, a niece and three nephews; Ryan and Drew Knowles and Morgan and Gavin Dreher, several aunts, uncles, cousins, also survive him. Calling hours will be Thursday January 5, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday January 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Internment will be later this year at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to an education trust for his son Robby.
