Richard M "Dick" Thompson

Mr. Richard "Dick" M. Thompson, Sr., 85, of Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on June 10, 1932 the son of Alonzo and Pearl (Bezio) Thompson. Dick served in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1953 in the 11th Airborne. He was a firefighter for the Plattsburgh Fire Department from 1960 until his retirement in 1979. Dick drove delivery for Paul Calkins Auction for many years. He served as Steward at the American Legion Post 20 for many years. Dick was a Life Member of the American Legion Post 20 and a Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Keeseville Lodge 2072. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife Shirley, a son Richard, Jr. and several siblings. Dick is survived by his wife Barbara (LaPierre) Thompson of Plattsburgh, a daughter Darby Cronin and her husband Robert of Plattsburgh, three grandsons; Nick Cronin of Arizona, Mac Thompson of Alabama, Sam Thompson of Alabama, three stepsons; Robert Knaggs and his wife Becky of South Carolina, Rick Knaggs and his wife Connie of Vermont, Harry Knaggs and his wife Kristina of West Chazy, a stepdaughter April Martin of Plattsburgh, thirteen step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 9:30 to 11:00am at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Entombment will be at the Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.
