Richard R "Dick" Turnbull

Cumberland Head Richard R. "Dick" Turnbull, 89, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Friday March 23, 2018. He was born in Hemmingford, Quebec on November 12, 1928, the son of Robert and Elison (Sweet) Turnbull. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1946. He then attended Plattsburgh State Business School. . He worked for Plattsburgh Distributing Co. prior to 6 years serving the United States Army, discharged as a Tech Sergeant. Following his service, he worked for Loan Service Corp and then returned to Plattsburgh Distributing Company and later for Bay View Dairy for several years, then returning to Plattsburgh Distributing Co where he worked at until his passing. He was an original parishioner of St. Mary's of the Lake Church until its closing where he was an usher. At present, he was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Dick was an active member of over 50 years at the American Legion #20 in. He was the secretary and Treasurer of the Plattsburgh Men's Bowling Assoc. for many years and was inducted in the Bowling Hall of Fame. Dick was married to the love of his life, Marjorie A. (Thompson) Turnbull on July 4, 1959. The had been married for over 58 years. They had two children; Michael T. and Patricia A. and two granddaughters, Kathryn (Katie) and Kassie LaHart. He is predeceased by his parents, a sister Mildred, and a brother-in-law, Dale. He is survived by his wife; his children, Michael Turnbull (Cara) of Middleton, RI, and Patricia LaHart (John) of Keeseville, granddaughters, Kathryn and Kassie LaHart, sisters, Irma Hall and Gladys Dominik of Houston, TX, brother-in-law Charles Carpenter of Orienta, NC, sister-in-law Eleanor Reynold of Cooperville, NY, brother-in-law Donald Thompson, and cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 28 at 1:00 pm at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be at a later date at St. Mary's of the Lake Cemetery on Cumberland Head.
