Rita Boissey

Rita Boissey, age 94 formerly of Rand Hill Road in Morrisonville died May 31, 2013 at The New York State Veteran's Home at Montrose. She was born October 7, 1918 in Churubusco, NY to Freddie and Mina Furnia. She had seven brothers and three sisters. Rita obtained her license as a beautician and operated a beauty shop in Ellenberg until she met and married Bernard Boissey on November 21, 1946 in Ellenburg NY. Rita and Bernard moved around the country until he retired from the US Navy in 1961. After retiring from the Navy the couple settled in Morrisonville and resided there until Bernard's death in 2011. Rita was a devout Catholic her entire life. Rita and her husband were avid gardeners and enjoyed sharing from their garden with their neighbors and friends. She always enjoyed puzzles - crossword, jumbles, and jig saw; even after she lost most of her vision to macular degeneration she still enjoyed word puzzles when someone would read them to her. She is survived by her brothers Vernon, Alger and Leonard; her son Bruce and his wife Lynda of Millbrook, NY; her son James and companion Cynthia of Salida Colorado; her son David and his wife Vicki of King NC; Eight grandchildren: Keri Youkon of Vancouver, WA; Erik Zinsmeyer of Hay Market, VA; Marc Boissey of Millbrook, NY; David Boissey, Jr. of Fort Bragg, NC; Michael Boissey of Tobaccoville, NC; Timothy Boissey of Burbank, CA; Christopher Boissey of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas; Stephen Boissey of Winston-Salem, NC; and 12 great grandchildren. Rita was predeceased by her husband Bernard, her father Freddie, her mother Mina, her sisters Shirley, Dora, and Beulah and her brothers Ronald, Homer, Lester and Francis. Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh from 9:30 to 10:30am, Saturday June 8. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM and will be celebrated at St. Alexander's, Morrisonville. Burial will take place at St. Alexander's cemetery.
