Rita M Lavarnway

Plattsburgh Rita M. LaVarnway, 92, of LaVarnway Lane in Saranac, NY passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2011 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Saranac, NY on October 19, 1918 the daughter of George and Emma Badger. Rita married the love of her life Salost LaVarnway on May 19, 1942 at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. She was a stay at home mom, raising their four children. Rita was a member of Saranac Senior Citizens Club, Assumption of Mary, Catholic Daughters, Assumption of Mary Church and Saranac Fire Department Auxiliary, where she was a founding member. She enjoyed going to church, watching the Saranac Fiddlers play and playing card games like SkipBo and Hearts. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a daughter Joyce LaVarnway, a granddaughter-in-law Sonya LaVarnway, two brothers; Lewis and Arthur Badger and two sisters; Olive Welch and Bertha Gonyea. Rita is survived by three children; Beverly Story and her husband Jim of Oklahoma City, OK, Wayne LaVarnway and his wife Colleen of Saranac and Bernard LaVarnway and his wife Cindy of Saranac, nine grandsons; James, Justin and Ryan Story, Jason and Matthew LaVarnway, Ricky, Kevin, Robbie and Mykel LaVarnway and twelve great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Thursday March 17, 2011 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Redford, NY. Burial will be later in the year in Church of the Assumption Cemetery. Donations in Rita's memory may be made to the Church of the Assumption, Saranac Rescue Squad or Masses to be said in her memory.
