Rita C. Sullivan, 95, passed away at The Marian Center in Holyoke, MA on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Rita was born at home on July 5, 1926 in Peru, NY, the daughter of John and Sarah (Cronin) Sullivan.
Rita attended Keeseville High School and went on to nursing school. Upon graduating as a Registered Nurse, she started her career working with Dr. Clark in Chazy, NY. In 1963, she joined the staff of Champlain Valley Hospital where she worked for 24 years. Rita was well known amongst her colleagues as “Sully”; always compassionate with her patients and their families. Her Catholic faith was a big part of her day-to-day living. She was a caring, kind and selfless person with a wonderful Irish sense of humor.
In 1988, Rita retired from Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and joined a dedicated group of volunteers who made the Regina Maria Retreat House a successful respite and meeting place.
In 2015, Rita relocated to The Marian Center in Holyoke, MA, an assisted living home run by the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. The family extends their sincerest gratitude for honoring her life and giving her the wonderful care, she so willingly gave to others.
Rita is survived by her sister, Mary Neyenhouse, her sister-in-law, Evelyn Sullivan and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, and sisters-in-law: Michael (Barbara) Sullivan, Francis (Virginia) Sullivan, William (Betty) Sullivan, John (Grace) Sullivan and Charles Sullivan, as well as her sister Margaret Buckley (Edgar) and her brother-in-law, John Neyenhouse.
Calling hours will be held at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 9:00am-10:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am at St. John’s Church. Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Keeseville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CVPH Foundation.
