Robert Owen Brooks, 98, of Plattsburgh, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He was born Wednesday, February 3rd, 1926, the son of Owen Thomas Brooks and Edith Mae Brooks. He was married to the Former Lois Ann Hyland from 1950 until her passing in 2016. Bob and Loann enjoyed boating and camping during summers at their cottage on Chateaugay Lake, traveling with their RV throughout the Northeast, and wintering in Florida upon retirement. They also spent several years compiling documents and records to have the Church of St Dismas, the Good Thief, at Dannemora State Prison placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1991. Bob is a WWII Veteran, having served in the US Navy aboard the USS Topeka, CL67. He with his son, Thomas, a US Army Veteran, were on the second North Country Honor Flight out of Plattsburgh. He was a devoted member of Cumberland Bay Barbershoppers for 65 years and a member of the American Legion Post 20, since his active years in the military. He is survived by his son, Thomas J. and wife Dianne of Glens Falls, NY; sister, Mary and husband Pete Corral of Plattsburgh, NY; along with several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Lois Ann; his daughter Mary Lynn and his parents. Visitation will take place on July 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be private. Donations may be made to the Cumberland Bay Barbershoppers.
