Robert F. Burgess. Jr., 92, of Plattsburgh, New York, passed away on Friday June 14, 2019 at UVHN:CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on July 27, 1926 the son of Robert F. and Gertrude (Rothermal) Burgess, Sr.
Robert attended Plattsburgh High School and enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He served his country as a signalman and was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon returning to Plattsburgh he finished his high school degree. Robert married Doris Aubin on September 20, 1947 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. He later went on to work at Plattsburgh Air Force Base with Strategic Air Command as a Fund Manager, retiring on May 25, 1983. Robert was a parishioner of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church and most recently Our Lady of Victory Church, a life time member of the American Legion Post 20 and the Elks Club.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Doris Burgess in 2006.
Robert is survived by two daughters; Nancy Reilly and her husband William of West Chazy, Bonnie Furlong of Clifton Park, three grandchildren; Scott (Valerie) Trombly, Cassie (Chad) Fireman and Kevin Michael Furlong, three great grandchildren; Taylor, Robin and Aubrey.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 11:30 to 12:30 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh, burial will follow at St. Mary’s of the Lake Cemetery on Cumberland Head.
Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the North Country Honor Flight.
