Robert Alan “Bob” DeCamp passed away on Jan. 17, 2021, following a battle with COVID-19. He was born Sept. 8, 1950, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Arthur and Mildred DeCamp. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur.
After graduating from High School in Detroit, Bob began his professional career in 1970 as an import analyst with F.W. Myers in Michigan.
He earned his U.S. Customs Brokerage license in 1976 and moved to Myers’ Champlain, N.Y., office in 1981. His time with Myers, Livingston International and A.N. Deringer saw him rise to Vice President of the Northeast Region and later, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs.
In 2008 and 2011, the Departments of Homeland Security and the Treasury appointed Bob to serve on the Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of Customs and Border Protection. The committee advises both departments’ secretaries on CBP commercial operations and department functions.
Bob earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Plattsburgh State University. He remained active with the university as both a teacher and advisory council member of the School of Business and Economics until retirement in 2017.
He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with family and friends, attending sporting events with his children and playing board and card games with his grandchildren. He also loved living on the shores of Lake Champlain. The area allowed him to enjoy power boating, scuba diving and motorcycling.
Bob is survived by his wife Cheryl of 49 years, son Rob and daughter-in-law Jerri of Baldwin Place, N.Y., son Ryan of Tampa, FL., daughter Rachelle and son-in-law Thomas Roberts of Plattsburgh, and five grandchildren, Deanna, Robbie, Natalie, Alexandra and Carter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. John's Church. Interment will be in Divine Mercy Cemetery at a later date.
