Mr. Robert "Bob" F. Montefusco, Sr., 87, of Glenn Drive, Plattsburgh passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 5, 1924, the son of Frank and Charlotte (Moerler) Montefusco. Robert joined the United States Army in World War II serving in the European Theater, where he received a Bronze Star after being separated from his platoon, for leading a fellow soldier through a mine field and later a Purple Heart in the battle at Casina, Italy. After returning from the War he married the love of his life Carmela Ventimiglia in Brooklyn, NY on February 4, 1945. Robert worked as a foreman for Great Eastern Industries in Long Island City, retiring in 1989. Soon after he and Carmela moved to Plattsburgh to be closer to family. Robert enjoyed bowling, playing card games and tinkering with projects around his home. He was very proud of his military service. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers John and Albert Montefusco, a sister Theresa Busterna and a grandson David Smith, III. Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carmela Montefusco of Plattsburgh, three children; Robert Montefusco and his wife Nancy of Plattsburgh, Charlotte Smith and her husband David of Wantagh, NY and Anita Soltero and her husband Bob of Plattsburgh, seven grandchildren; Bobby (Carrie) Montefusco of Schuyler Falls, Jimmy (Tammy) Montefusco of Keeseville, Sondra Montefusco of Beekmantown, Joshua (Belinda) Montefusco of Atlanta, GA, Marie Montefusco of Plattsburgh, Elaine Geslani of Wantagh, NY, Steven Smith of Palm City, FL, 14 great grandchildren; Marissa, Addison, James, Jacob, Brittany, Emily, Thomas, Matthew, Tyler, Hailey, Joshua, Chelsea and Kira Montefusco and Jonathan Geslani, several niece, nephews and cousins also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Thursday April 26, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh, burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery with full military honors.
