Robert A. Shea Sr., 84, of John Boswell Road, Peru, died at his home on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024. He was born on Aug. 19, 1940, at CVPH in Plattsburgh, and was raised by his grandparents, Gilbert and Gladys Burl, in Altona and West Chazy, along with his aunts and uncles, whom he considered to be his brothers and sisters. He attended Chazy Central Rural School. He worked in the construction industry, retiring in 1995 as a member of Laborer’s International Union Local #1822.He was a communicant at both St. Patrick’s Church and St. Augustine’s. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hastings, and they were together for more than 50 years. She predeceased him in 2014. Survivors include their children, Kim Shea and her companion, Scott Farquharson, of Plattsburgh, Robert A. Shea Jr. of Peru, and Megan Shea and her companion, Alan McKay, of Valatie; three grandchildren, Jared Seymour and his companion, Randi Tella, of Saranac, Matthew and Renée Seymour, of Holly Springs, N.C., and Emma McKay of Valatie; and five great-grandchildren, Avery, Thea, and Charlee Seymour of Saranac, and Cooper and Hunter Seymour of Holly Springs, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Becker of Chalfont, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Pearl Burl; his brothers, Ernest, Arthur, Norman, Uyless, Donald, and Robert Burl; and sisters Maude Daniels and Shirley Sipos. He was involved in auto racing with his brothers in the 1950s and ‘60s throughout the Northeast region and Canada, and even competed against drag racing legend Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney. He was a great fan of NASCAR (particularly Dale Earnhardt Sr.), older country music, TV Western shows and movies, and games shows. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune every night. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Donations may be made to St. Augustine’s Church or the American Diabetes Association. Calling hours will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30 at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s.
