Robert L Shumway

Robert Lee Shumway, 83, formally of Keeseville, N. Y. Robert went home to be with the lord on August 28, 2013 in North Richland Hills, Texas, after a long hard battle with illness. He was born july 2, 1930 to Raymond and Elizabeth (Kerr) Shumway. He later married Lily (Dattilio) Shumway. Out of that wedlock they were blessed with 6 wonderful children, whom he loved more than life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, he cherished every moment he had with them. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He loved camping and gardening and spending time in the outdoors. He also loved spending time with his friends. He retired after serving 25 years in the U.S. Air Force he then worked as an operating room manager at the CVPH medical center and also worked at the Fletcher Allen Hospital and later retired. He was preceded in death by his wife parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. Left behind to mourn his loss are his children Robert Jr. of West Chazy, N.Y., Richard of Syracuse, N.Y. Timothy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Cynthia (Shumway) Crossland of Oktaha, Oklahoma, Brian of North Richland Hills, Texas and John of Las Vegas, Nevada. 6 stepchildren from his second marriage to Irene (LaValley) Shumway, Clara Lahue of Keeseville, N.Y. Richard LaValley of Peru, N.Y. Debbie Wells of Peru, N.Y. Avis Foster of Chazy Lake, N.Y. Mary Banker of West Chazy, N.Y. and Terry LaValley of Vermont. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Calling hours will be held on Thursday September 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh a funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel, burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery in Winooski, Vermont.
