Cadyville Mr. Rodney L. LaVarnway, Sr. 54, of Bucks Corners Road in Cadyville, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 2, 1959, the son of the late Harold and Marie (Rock) LaVarnway. Rodney was employed as a Corrections Officer for almost 30 years at Clinton Correctional Facility until his retirement. He was an independent contractor and enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time with his family and his dogs. He is survived by his son; Rodney LaVarnway, Jr. and companion Courtney Smith of Ballston Lake, a step daughter and her spouse: Amanda and Joseph Hatch of Ballston Lake, his siblings and their spouses; Bonnie and Dave Green of Chicago, Ill., Shirley and Robert Butler of Saranac, Nancy and Gerard Russo of Plattsburgh, Carol LaPointe of Cadyville, his grandchildren; Leah LaVarnway, Reagan and Riley Hatch, his nieces and nephews: Tara Chase, Erica Butler, Jesse LaVarnway, Jamie Beshel, Mark and Luke LaPointe, Derek Russo, and Robert Chisholm. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (James) LaVarnway in 2009, his brother Robert LaVarnway, and a nephew Johnny Chisholm. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 11:00am at St. James Church in Cadyville. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
