Roger Donald Bell, 86, of Pickets Corner Road, Saranac, NY died peacefully on Friday June 22, 2012 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center. He was born in Johnson City, NY on August 17, 1925 the son of Walter and Winifred (Robertson) Bell. Roger Served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946 as a Destroyer Escort (sonar) during the Normandy Invasion. He later served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Roger married Margaret LaVarnway on October 4, 1952 in Dannemora, NY. He worked as a Corrections Officer from 1953 to 1988, achieving the rank of Captain and Lieutenant. Roger loved camping on Union Falls and later on the St. Lawrence River. He loved hunting, fishing and boating and was an avid bird watcher and dog lover. Carpenter, plumber, mason, electrician; he could build or repair anything (strong and lasting) and always had a project list underway. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret and their children; Donald Bell and his wife Rosemary of Clayton, NY, Robin LaBarge and her husband Bruce of Morrisonville, NY, Michelle Bell of West Chazy, NY, Randy Bell of Ogdensburg, NY, Timothy Bell and his fiancé Donna Williams of Dannemora, NY, a daughter-in-law Suellen (Sears) Bell of Cadyville, NY, his grandchildren; Jeffrey Bell and his fiancé Ashley Bonisteel, Allison Nelson and her husband Rocky, Gregory LaBarge and his wife Danielle, Nicole LaBarge and her fiancé Daniel Semrow and Miranda and Adriana Bell, three great grandchildren; Aden and Ella LaBarge and Delaney Jane Nelson, a brother Malcolm Bell of Salt Lake City, UT.
