Plattsburgh Roger E. Forkey, 81 died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on June 29, 2009 after a long illness. Roger Forkey was born in Mooers Forks, NY on January 1, 1928, son of Arthur and Ruby (Garrand) Forkey. The Forkey Family later moved to Plattsburgh. Roger graduated from MAI in 1945. He attended Wadhams Hall Seminary and Christ the King Seminary in Olean, NY. He graduated from Plattsburgh State University in 1967 and later received his Masters in Education from Plattsburgh State. Roger taught in Beekmantown Central School District in the elementary grades from 1967 to 1989 when he retired. He was a member of the Beekmantown Teachers Association, the NYS Retired Teachers Association, and the Champlain Valley Retired Teachers Association. Roger was an active, life-long member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. He was a former Lector, Homebound Minister, and Hospital Eucharistic Minister. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Ruby, brothers; Arthur, Albert, Gilbert and Adrian and sisters Ruth Rock and Elizabeth Fountain. Roger is survived by his wife of forty years Sharon (Gifford) Forkey, his son, Jeffrey Forkey of Plattsburgh, NY, two daughters; Mary Beth Hackett and her husband Austin of Phoenix, AZ and Erin Ward and her husband Mark of Methuen, MA, and a grandson William Ward. Also surviving him is a brother Clarence Forkey and his wife Jeanne of Morrisonville, NY, sisters in law; Belva Forkey and Mildred Forkey Sellin, brother in law Bernard Rock, and several nieces and nephews. Roger enjoyed painting, gardening, fishing, working on home improvements projects, and most of all, spending time with his family. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday July 2, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Donations may be made to two organizations in honor of Roger; Hospice of the North Country who compassionately provided care in his last days, 43 Durkee St., Suite 200, Plattsburgh, NY 12901; or to the Myotubular Myopathy-Centronuclear Myopathy Family Conference in honor of Roger's grandson, William.
