Ronald J Hazen

Chazy Mr. Ronald J. Hazen, 75, of State Route 9 in Chazy, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his family by his side. He was born in Burlington, Vermont on September 30, 1935, the son of Wyatt and Eleanor (Collins) Hazen, Sr. He attended school in Alburgh, Vermont and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956. He was a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight and later drove for Georgia Pacific. He and his wife Viola also owned and operated Hazen's Ice Cream Bar in Chazy for over 20 years. Ronald was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 1466 in Beekmantown, and the Russell B. Childs American Legion Post 769 in Chazy. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Viola (Yelle) Hazen, his children and their spouses; Bruce and Juanita Hazen of Jacksonville, Fl., Lori and George Provost of West Chazy, Shawn and Danny Brunell of Ellenburg Depot, 6 grandchildren; Mason, Tyler and Shane Hazen, Kevin and Jenn Provost, Danielle Provost, Brooke Brunell, 3 great grandchildren; McKenzie Hazen, Meka and Payne Provost, and several nieces, nephews, brothers in law and sisters in law. His parents, his mother in law and father in law; Evelyn and Dennis Yelle, his stepfather who was like a father to him, Kermit Pombrio, three brothers Wyatt Hazen, Jr., Larry Pombrio and Allen Bruce Hazen passed away earlier. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery in Chazy at a later date. Memorial donations may be offered to V.F.W. Post 1466 in Beekmantown or American Legion Post 769 in Chazy.
