Ronald J. Tomo

June 24, 1955 — November 23, 2024

Ronald J. Tomo Born on June 24, 1955 in Youngstown Ohio. Ron graduated high school in 1973 from Cardinal Mooney High School and in the fall of the same year, attended Calhoun Engineering School in Baltimore, MD where he was able to gain knowledge and technical skill as a Merchant Marine. Beginning in 1977 he joined M.E.B.A. Union and sailed around the world while engaged as a 3rd assistant engineer working his way to 1st assistant engineer. In 1980 he married Mary Ellen Monty and began their life together in Portersville, PA and eventually moved to Mooers Forks, NY where, with family, he built their homestead. After 29 years of sailing Ron retired. He then was elected to the NAC School Board, a position he held for 10 years, which brought him great pride. As he was inclined to keep himself busy, he worked for a short time at Pratt & Whitney and later, NOVA Bus. Throughout the years while not at sea, he would work as a sawyer with his wife in their rough cut lumber business. In his retirement he was frequently busy with many building projects which were calculated precisely and leisurely completed (most of the time.) In September of 2024, he was diagnosed with Stage IV Biliary Duct Cancer. He pursued treatment at the Adirondack Medical Center’s Oncology department. However, he was unable to tolerate treatment and after brief hospitalization returned home. Ron was under the care with the compassionate, patient and kind care of the nurses of Hospice of the North Country. He passed in presence of his wife and intimate family Saturday, 23 November. Ron was quick witted and always had a good joke to share and he mentioned more than once, “When you get to be 69 the only thing you can do is turn around.” Ron is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Tomo nee Monty; Daughters and their partners Shannon E. Aguglia (Scott Aguglia,) Gretchen A. Depo (Josh Depo) Alexandra T. Tomo (Jeremiah Cross) and his son, Nathaniel E. Tomo. Grand Daughters: Natalie A. Aguglia, Annabel E. Aguglia, and Olive L. Depo. His sister Margaret Chavera and his brother Gregory Tomo and sister-in-law Mary Ann Tomo. As well as many loved and cherished nieces and nephew and great-nieces and great-nephews. Ronald J. Tomo is predeceased by his father Paul Tomo, mother Valeria A. Tomo nee Schlosser, and his sister Pauline J. Tomo. Calling hours will be held Saturday 30th November from 11:00-1:00 followed promptly with mass at St. Edmund’s Church of Ellenburg, NY.
