Roy N Mitchell Jr

Roy N. Mitchell, Jr., of Plattsburgh NY, entered into Heaven’s gates on Thursday, April 27, 2023. He was 92 years old. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on December 7, 1930, the son of Roy V. Mitchell, Sr. and Yvonne Gallant Mitchell.

Roy attended MAI in Plattsburgh, NY, where he was a key member of their football team. He was very athletic. He spent some years after that boxing, where he was known to be a tough opponent. He was a Golden Glove Boxer in 3 states. He married the love of his life, Laura Emily Brooks on June 27, 1953. He was happily married to her until the time of her passing on April 10, 2021. They were married for 67 years. He was employed for many years by Wyeth/Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point, NY, where he retired in 1995. It was said that he never missed a workday. He was respected and loved by many of his coworkers. He raised his family of 6 children in Altona, NY. He was very active in the Altona Church of the Nazarene for many years, where he served on the board, and he also saw that the Church building and property was always well taken care of. Roy and Laura moved to Plattsburgh in 2004, where he resided until his passing. He attended the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene. He loved his family VERY much and told them that OFTEN. He was so proud of all his children and grandchildren. He recently said, “I have the best kids”, and was rewarded with the reply “That’s because we have the best Dad”. He was a charmer, especially with the ladies. The phrase, “Oh my goodness, he is the cutest and sweetest man” was often heard by many. He loved Westerns. He had several Louis L’Amour Books, and he read them and reread them several times over. He loved John Wayne and could tell you anything about him and his movies. He enjoyed camping and went many times over the years with his wife and kids. He loved driving and enjoyed taking a leisurely drive around the lake. He loved to eat. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Laura, in Heaven and in the presence of the Lord, where he will spend eternity.

He is predeceased by his father Roy V. Mitchell, Sr., his mother Yvonne Gallant Mitchell, his stepmother Marie (Dame) Mitchell, his beautiful wife Laura (Brooks) Mitchell, his son Bruce Dale Mitchell, his grandchildren Christopher Joel Mitchell and Emily Marie Burdo, his son-in-law Kenny Burdo, his brother Donald Mitchell and his stepbrother Terry Brunell.

He is survived by his children Patricia (Kevin) Straight, Nancy (Jack) Hamelin, Barbara Burdo, Jeffrey (Peggy) Mitchell, Rebecca (Duane) Hespell and Joey Mitchell; his grandchildren Corey (Johanna) Hamelin, Michael Hamelin, Roy Mitchell, Jennifer (Josh) Stefano, Nathan MacCallum, Sean Hespell and Trevor Hespell; his great grandchildren Juniper and Lyla Stefano and Michaela Hamelin; his brother Richard (Jill) Mitchell and sisters-in-law Stella Mitchell and Barbara Brunell; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
