Plattsburgh Mr. Russell R. Mischler, 75, of Boynton Avenue, Plattsburgh passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at the CVPH Medical Center rejoining his beloved wife, Lillian. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on March 10, 1938 the son of Daniel and Bernice (Mason) Mischler. Russ graduated from St. John's Academy and went on to become a successful salesman for over thirty years, a career he greatly enjoyed. Later in the 1970's Russ owned and operated Westgate South, a popular Plattsburgh sports bar which was renowned for its food and neighborhood atmosphere. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Plattsburgh Lodge #621. Having known Lillian throughout his life they were married on November 13, 1982. Russ often said if you are really, really lucky in life, you will have a true friend, especially one you spend the happiest times of your life with. Russ spent the happiest years of his life while married to Lillian. Russ and Lillian never thought about their difference in age. Day and night they could speak their minds openly and freely to each other and receive love and support in return. They shared a unique bond in which they could tell-it-like-is in their long conversations which carried on into the late hours of the night. They had a spontaneous relationship. Often they would leave at the spur of the moment driving to destinations unknown. They may have ended up far into Vermont or in Malone for a single cup of coffee. It did not matter, as long as they were together. The personal happiness and contentment was obvious to anyone who saw them together in the North Country. People would remark that the two of them were always smiling. Russ and Lillian's most joyous time was decorating their house on Boynton Avenue at Christmas. People would come from far and near, some traveled many miles every year to see their display. People would bring Christmas treats and groups would sing carols at the house. This huge display took months of planning and hard work to accomplish. Families would come year after year with their children and grandchildren walking through the yard to take in the entire display. Russell is survived by his brother Wesley Mischler and his wife Rose, his niece Debbie and her daughter Danielle. He is also survived by his extended family; Rick and Connie Knaggs, Tommy and Sue McFadden and family; Charles and Ann Laravia, Doug and Eddie Rock, Rob and Jamie Anderson, Kirk and Amy White. Russell was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Bernice Mischler, his beloved wife Lillian, his brothers; Danny, Phil and Peter Mischler, his special aunt Alice Brockney who everybody knew as Aunt Babe. Calling hours will be Friday, January 10, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY.
