Ruth Deon

January 21, 1932 — September 9, 2021

Ruth L.Deon, 89, of Plattsburgh, New York and a recent resident at The Wentworth Coventry Assisted Living Facility in Salt Lake City, Utah passed away of natural causes while under the care of hospice. Her children were instrumental in providing for Ruth's needs these past few months as she adjusted to her new surroundings. The warm weather agreed with Ruth and she enjoyed a new social life with the other residents.
Ruth was born in Utica, New York on January 21, 1932. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Louise Brucker.
Ruth met the love of her life, John Emmett Deon at a school dance. They married on September 15, 1951 at St. Joseph's Church. John's strong work ethic and vision created successful businesses which led them to settle and make their home in Plattsburgh. Ruth and John were blessed with five children. They would often go out on date nights and stay at the Queen Elizabeth in Montreal. Together they were active members of St. John's Parish and the Elk's Club. Ruth was an entertainer and always enjoyed hosting parties and holiday celebrations. When John became sick with MS, Ruth was always there to care for him. Her love was his strength.
Eventually, Ruth ventured out of the home and was the co-owner of City Florist in Plattsburgh. She found great joy in working alongside her team and contributing to the community. In her later years, she was content to watch golf and was excited whenever football season began so she could cheer on the Patriots.
Ruth is survived by her children, John Deon of Cliff Haven, Kenneth and Lindsey Deon of Greer, South Carolina, Elizabeth and Michael Jensen of Plattsburgh, Suzanne and Christopher Lacombe of Utah, Mary and Walter Roberts also of Utah. As evident by the many photos in her home, Ruth's 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren were her treasures. They will always remember "Granny" for her well stocked snack drawer and the oreo jar. Ruth is also survived by her best friend and sister, Sandra Nowicki and her husband Amos Odit of Utica, N.Y.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband John E. Deon, her daughter in law, Elaine Deon, two brothers, Stanley and Charles Brucker.
With concern for the health of others during this pandemic the family will have a private Catholic service. They ask that you keep Ruth in your thoughts and prayers. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
