Sarah Louise Rummel Smalley passed away on March 21, 2021, in Plattsburgh, NY. Sarah was born to Mabel and Talma (Tally) Rummel on May 30, 1931, in Goodland, KS. She grew up in Goodland with two older brothers, Talma and Dale, and even met the love of her life there. She married Lauren B. (L. B.) Smalley on his birthday, Feb. 28, 1950. This way he would never forget their anniversary. Sarah was a vivacious woman who loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother as well as a Pastor’s wife and friend. She loved playing the piano and could play some of the best boogie woogie you ever heard. She could even make hymns and Christmas songs in church swing! It was so much fun. Another thing about Sarah was how much she loved Christmas. The 25th of each month she would be heard counting how much longer until Christmas. In fact, she often sang Christmas carols all year long. We sang them to her when she was near the end of her life and it always brought a smile. Her beloved husband Bob, sister Evelyn and brothers Talma and Dale, died before her, but now they are all reunited in heaven. Sarah is survived by her four daughters: Michele (Jim), Janene (John), Penny (Norm) and Tami (Roger), nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID restrictions, memorial services will be held later this year in Goodland, KS.
