Shelley A Fracalossi

Shelley A. Fracalossi, 68, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at her home with family, after a 7-year long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Shelley was born in Plattsburgh on June 14, 1954, the daughter of Bertha Beckwith Grube of Plattsburgh. She was the first person in her family to attend college, graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1976 with a BA in English. She married Daniel Fracalossi that year and they settled down in a log cabin in Peru, NY. Her first and only child, Elisabeth, was born in 1980.

A lifelong learner, Shelley returned to school later in life, earning a BS in Psychology and an MA in Admin & Leadership. She was a business owner in Plattsburgh for over 40 years, best known for running Jade Tree Tax Professionals and her antiques store Mid-Century Mad. She was active in many hobbies, especially contradance and quilting. She taught psychology for several years at SUNY.

Shelley is remembered for her generous soul with a deep sense of social justice. She was a Rotarian and gave generously of her time to their foreign exchange program, hosting numerous exchange students. She was a frequent poll worker in local elections, and was once featured in the Press-Republican for her anti-war art. Most importantly, she was friend and confidant to her family and a wide circle of friends. We were honored to give back to her as her health declined, and heartbroken at her death.

She is survived by her sister Anita Shrader of Plattsburgh, and Elisabeth Fracalossi, her daughter, of Lunenburg, MA. She was predeceased by her mother Bertha in 2004.

There will be no public calling hours. Graveside services will be Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Spirit Sanctuary in Essex NY. A celebration of life will be planned for 2023.
