Shirley Jane Alford (Mitchell)

Shirley J. Alford, 84, of Crestview Dr., Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Thursday, November 16th, 2017 at the UVM CVPH Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Lewis on July 20, 1933 the daughter of the late Dennis and Hattie (Pulsifer) Mitchell. Shirley graduated from Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School and later graduated as a registered nurse from Champlain Valley Hospital in 1954 where she worked as a pediatric nurse. She also worked as a nurse with the ARC of Clinton County. Shirley received the "Red Badge of Courage" from the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec in 1998 for having resuscitated and saved the life of Rosaire Langlois of Quebec, Canada when he was in cardiac arrest. Shirley and her husband Harold developed the Thunderbird Heights subdivision of Plattsburgh in the 60'sand 70's and later Plattsburgh RV Park in the 90's. She was predeceased by her husband Harold G. Alford, her sisters; Stella Hutchins, Linda Mitchell, Susan Kinney and her brother Steven Mitchell. Shirley is survived by her sons, Dennis Alford and his wife Rita of Plattsburgh, Dean Alford of Plattsburgh, her daughter Jackie Tetreault and her husband Kevin, of Point Au Roche; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her sister Nancy Immeke of Orange City, FL, a brother Calvin Mitchell of Peru NY. and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 11:00am at the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child in care of The First Assembly God's Church.
