SISTER AGNES GAIL RACETTE, SCSL - Obituary Sister Agnes Gail Racette, formerly known as Sister Ursula of the Sacred Heart, 97, of Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Home Center, formerly Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, in Plattsburgh, NY was called to her heavenly home on Monday, December 19, 2016. She passed away at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Home Center with Sister Bernadette Ducharme, Sister Claire Michel Fortier, a niece (Juanita Stone), and a friend (Constance Laliberte) at her side. The third oldest in a family of four brothers and four sisters, she was born on March 30, 1919 to the late Louis A. and Ursula M. (Suprenant) Racette in Redford, NY. She was predeceased by both her parents, her siblings and their spouses - Armand (Emma) Racette, Bernard (Florence) Racette, Roland (Vanessa) Racette, Rita (Gerald) Hahn, Genevieve (Donald) Strong, Bernadette (Myles) Hughes, Olive Burdo and sister-in-law Marian Racette. Sister Agnes grew up on the family farm and attended elementary school under the care of a devoted teacher, her mother. Sister Agnes entered Sallaz Academy in Redford, NY where she spent her high school years guided by the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis. Sister Agnes followed her call to the religious life and on February 1, 1937 entered the Sisters of Charity of Saint Louis in Bienville, P.Q., made her First Profession on August 25, 1939 and her Final Profession on August 25, 1945 at Bienville, Levis, Quebec. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY and a Master of Religious Studies Degree at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario. She took up oil painting as well as taking a summer workshop at Mater Dei in Ogdensburg, NY. Her Mission Appointments were at OLVA, Plattsburgh, NY; Valcartier, P.Q.; Brookfield, CT; Keeseville, NY; Cheshire, CT; and Oakville, CT. Sister Agnes was a teacher and loved the "little ones". She also was House Bursar, Superior, Provincial Councillor, and Principal. On November 20, 1999 Sister Agnes Racette, SCSL was one of the INDUCTEES in the Clinton County Catholic Schools Wall of Acclaim. Her special interests were oil painting, Nursery School, caring for plants, recycling greeting cards to distribute to the residents at the Nursing Homes during the holiday season, Word Search, reading, and ministry of prayer. In 1989 Sister Agnes retired in the Sisters Convent in Plattsburgh and on November 23, 2009 sickness required that she make her home at the then Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. Survivors include her brother Jerry Racette of Redford, NY, brother-in-law Reginald Burdo of West Chazy, NY, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her Religious Community, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Louis. Calling hours will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. William G. Reamer, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery. Donations in Sr. Agnes memory may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
