Smede P Ryan

Beekmantown Mr. Smede Philip Ryan (MSGT USAF retired), 69, of the Haynes Road in Beekmantown, passed away Wednesday June 22, 2016 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH with family by his side. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on September 11, 1946 the son of the late Warren and Goldie (Bennett) Ryan. Smede was a Vietnam veteran and served over 24 years in the U.S. Air Force. His duty stations were Plattsburgh AFB, U-Tapao AB, Thailand, Andrews AFB, Grissom AFB, Keflavic AFB Iceland, and retired as a Master Sergeant from Plattsburgh AFB in 1988. He was a master aircraft mechanic for B-47's, KC-135's, A.W.A.C.S, as well as the maintenance crew for Presidents Nixon and Ford on Air Force One. He enjoyed collecting antiques, attending auctions with his wife Sandra at the Bridge Street Auction House, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Sandra (Dame) Ryan of Beekmantown , his children and their spouses; April and Douglas Widdis (TSGT USAF retired) of Acworth, GA., May and Jamie Tompkins of Keeseville, June Snide of Altona, Kevin Ryan and partner Patricia of Altona, a sister and brother in law; Molly and Gordon Carpenter of Barnesville, OH, his grandchildren; Megan and Mallory Widdis, Christopher, Amanda, Alexias(SPC US Army), and Patricia Tompkins, Autumn and Summer Snide, Darius and Bethany, his great grandchildren; Jayden, Riley-Jay, Arabella, Hayleigh, Brayden, and Carter, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister; Patricia Carpenter, a brother Raymond Ryan (MSGT USAF retired) and his mother in law Gertrude Devins. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St.in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Blair Biddle officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the Clinton County Veterans Service Agency.
