Mrs. Sonja M. "Sonny" Dayton, 63, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, New York passed away Friday, April 4, 2008 at the CVPH Medical Center with her loving family by her side after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York on June 10, 1944 the daughter of Sidney M. and Mabel G. (McDonald) Vorce. Sonny had been employed at Schonbeck for many years and most recently at JCEO as a bus driver. She enjoyed plastic canvas, crocheting, teddy bears, camping, computer games, but most importantly spending time with her family. Sonny will be remembered as a loving giving person and she was a member of St. Joseph's Church Treadwells Mills. She was predeceased by her parents Sidney M. and Mabel G. Vorce, one brother James Vorce killed in action during WWII; her sisters, Elizabeth Barney, Florence Howard, Hilda Vorce and Muriel Guynup. Sonny is survived by her husband of forty five years Donald Dayton of Plattsburgh, one son Christopher Dayton and his wife Faye of Peru, two daughters; Penny Day of Plattsburgh and Dawn St. John and her husband Scott of Palm Bay, Florida; three foster children; Santos Calderon and his wife Laura of Suisun City, California, Arlene Gilbert and her husband William of Rome, New York, Robert McClatchie of Plattsburgh; a brother Sidney "JR" Vorce of Plattsburgh, seven grandchildren, many foster grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive her. Calling hours will be Tuesday April 8, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday April 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Treadwells Mills with Rev. Joseph Elliott, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be at a later date at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
