Stanley Ronald Kourofsky, 63, of the Slosson Road, West Chazy, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on October 23, 1950 the son of the late Joseph and Eileen (Durocher) Kourofsky. Stan graduated from Lyon Mountain High School in 1969. He continued his love for education and the outdoors by completing his Associates Degree in Forestry at Paul Smith's College and his Bachelors degree in Education at Plattsburgh State University. Stan worked as an Environmental Conservation/Forestry Instructor at C.V. Tech for 34 years until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Ski challenged his students to apply classrooms skills in competitions such as the NYS Envirothon and NYS Conservation Competitions. The students gained great personal pride by consistently place in the top ten. His educational program was awarded the NYSED Career and Technical Education Program approval for state accreditation. In retirement he helped landowners manage their land with his Consultant Forestry Business. He never stopped learning and continued to do the best for his students, classroom, and community. He demonstrated his appreciation for nature and our beautiful Adirondack Region by sharing his knowledge and kindness with both the youth and adults through educational programs, trainings and job opportunities. His lifetime goal was to contribute back to the community he lived in by coaching and mentoring the growth of others. Stan enjoyed his summers supervising the Youth Conservation Corps in collaboration with Work Source One and Cornell Cooperative Extension. He also served 20 years as a Hunter Safety Instructor in the Sportsman Education Program. He served as a Director on the Cornell Cooperative Extension Board and 10 years on the Beekmantown Central School Board as well as being a past president. His greatest love was that of family. His quiet strength, humor, support, and guidance will be greatly missed. Family and friends were blessed to have him in their lives. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sherry (Holloway) Kourofsky, his son and daughter, Kyle and Karis, his mother, Eileen (Durocher) Kourofsky and 7 brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from to 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, West Chazy, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nexus Autism program of Clinton County, Nexus is located in Sibley Hall, Room 419, in care of Dr. Patricia Egan.
