Stephen R. Wood

d. July 16, 2024

Stephen R. Wood, 65, of Plattsburgh, NY passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2024 at his home. Stephen was born in Ogdensburg, New York to Bertman E. Wood and Shirley (Reed) Wood. He grew up in Cadyville, New York and Lake Placid, New York where he graduated from Lake Placid High School. Stephen always loved sharing fond memories of his time with family and friends in Lake Placid. After high school, Stephen began learning the electrician trade and working for his father’s business W.E. Electric Contracting. Stephen later moved to Plattsburgh and joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired in 2021 after 40 years of service. Stephen played basketball in high school. As an adult, he enjoyed golfing, attending sporting and racing events and watching his beloved Yankees and Giants play. Later in life, Stephen was the happiest when he was surrounded by close friends and family enjoying a good meal, playing cards and sharing stories and memories. He loved to joke around and his laugh and smile were contagious. For a big guy, he had the biggest heart. He was always there to help family or a friend in need—truly “a friend to everyone.” Recently, after living in North Myrtle Beach, SC for almost 20 years, Stephen moved back to Plattsburgh to be closer to family and friends, especially his adored granddaughter Natalee. He taught her his secrets in poker and blackjack and enjoyed every second with her as did Natalee with her “Pop Pop.” She was the absolute light of his life. Stephen is survived by his two children, daughter Cassie Parah and her husband Tom Parah of Swanton, Vermont, son Robert Wood of Little River, South Carolina and two siblings, his sister Pamela Corcoran and her husband Terry Corcoran of Apalachicola, Florida and his brother Gary Wood of Farmington Hills, Michigan. He is also survived by his granddaughter Natalee Parah and his step-mother Alice (Holt Colby) Wood Stephen was predeceased by his mother Shirley and father Bertman. Stephen’s children would also like to recognize Steve and Letitia Taylor and Manuel Perez for their lifetime friendship with their dad and the unconditional kindness and companionship they have shown him over the years, especially in the last year. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY. Donations can be made in Stephen’s name to Elmore SPCA, P.O. Box 686, Peru, NY 12972 or Salvation Army Plattsburgh Food Pantry, 4804 South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
