Susan Jane Hildebran

Susan Jane (Schnorbach) Hildebran of True Brook Road, Saranac, NY died on Sunday September 22, 2019. She passed quickly and peacefully in her home which at least was a great relief after caring for her husband of 44 years during his two year battle with cancer.
Susan was born in Manistee, Michigan on May 22nd, 1947, the eldest daughter of William Leahy Schnorbach and Jane (Hardy) Schnorbach. She attended Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University for one year before transferring to the University of Kentucky where she met her husband Michael. They were married in 1968 and had two sons: Bret and Rod.
Susan graduated from University of Kentucky in 1969 with a degree in Animal Science and later received a Masters degree from Ball State University in Natural Resources during the ‘80s. She was a loving mother who spent years raising and caring for her children. She also had a lifelong love of animals, adopting many a dog in need of a home, particularly the ones with mismatched eyes. She was dedicated to her horses continuing to ride dressage late into her life. She combined her love of animals with her academic background to publish a paper on the relationship of Copper and Molybdenum in horse nutrition in 1986. Moving to the North Country in 1991, she embraced the area and enjoyed hiking and kayaking. Her weekly lunch meeting with friends was always a highlight of the week.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, and her husband, Michael J Hildebran.
She is survived by her two sons: Bret Hildebran and his wife Julie of OH and Rod Hildebran of NY, a grandson Jason Hildebran, two brothers Bill Schnorbach of FL, John Schnorbach of FL and a sister Anne (Schnorbach) Tabb of SC.
Calling hours will be held Friday, September 27, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, NY. Funeral Service will follow in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel.
