Altona Mr. Terry W. Brunell, 73, of Station Street, Altona, New York passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Altona, New York on October 26, 1935 the son of Wilmer and Marie (Dame) Brunell. He attended Altona Central School and served in the U.S. Army. Terry retired in 1988 from Anchor Motor Freight but also drove buses for Northern Adirondack School and C.A. R. T. He aided in the construction of Miner's Dam in Altona. Terry served on the Altona Correctional Facility Task Force. He was also a Charter Member of the Altona Volunteer Fire Department. Terry was an active member in many sports organizations in the area. He was the Co-developer of Feinberg Park Athletic Fields, the Co-founder and Organizer of Altona Youth Commission where he served as chairman and coached for over 35 years. He also coached and coordinated the Altona Basketball Tournament for many years. Terry participated in the Monday night Fireman's Bowling League for 30 years and served as Manager of the Altona Boxing Team and brought many teams to the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournaments. Terry served as Commissioner for the Champlain Valley Baseball league and coached the Altona Hornets Baseball Team. Prior to coaching baseball he participated in the Adirondack Baseball League. He was also the Co-manager of West Plattsburgh Softball League and coached and played with the Altona Rockrunners Softball Team. Terry was a Councilman for the Town of Altona, the chairman of the Altona Democratic Party and he served on the Clinton County Democratic Committee for over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Champlain, the American Legion Post #1619, the Lyon Mountain Umpires Association, North Country Golf Club and Holy Angels Church. Terry was predeceased by his father Wilmer Brunell, a daughter Brenda Lee Brunell, and his grandchildren Tara Lynn Bushey, and Chad Wayne Brunell. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara (Jackson) Brunell of Altona, two daughters; Jeanne Bushey and her husband Michael of Altona, Karen Tourville and her husband Francis of Plattsburgh, six sons; Michael Brunell and his companion Jody Deno of Beekmantown, Daniel Brunell and his wife Shawn of Altona, James Brunell and his wife Kim of Altona, John Brunell and his wife Karen of Altona, Thomas Brunell and his wife Keitha of Mooers Forks and Edmund Brunell and his wife Stacy of Altona, his mother Marie Brunell Mitchell of Altona, a half brother; Richard Mitchell and his wife Jill of Champlain, two step brothers; Donald Mitchell and his wife Stella of Altona, and Roy Mitchell and his wife Laura of Plattsburgh, a sister-in-law; Patricia Wolfe and her husband Robert of East Syracuse, seventeen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one step grand child, several nieces, nephews and his canine companion Yogi. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Road, Altona, New York. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will be at a later date at Holy Angel's Cemetery in Altona, New York. Memorial gifts in Terry's memory may be made to the Altona Fire Department.
