Theresa Julia Vassar (Renadette)

Mrs. Theresa J. Vassar, 89, of Miner Farm Road, Sciota, NY entered in the arms of the Angels peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 under the care of Hospice of the North Country and North Country Home Services. She was born in Upper Jay, NY on April 6, 1927 the daughter of Arthur and Julia (DeFayette) Renadette, Sr. Theresa enjoyed crocheting, baking, sewing, crafts and spending time with her family. She married the love of her life Leon Vassar on May 15th, 1946. Together, they had 67 years of marriage until his death on December 22, 2013. She was also predeceased by her parents and a brother Victor Renadette, She was proud of her children; Beverly Ann (who passed away as an infant), a son Larry Vassar and his wife Melody, two daughters Lynn Rock and her husband Gary, Carol Lashway and her husband Randy, loving Meme to nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, a brother Arthur Renadette, Jr. and his wife Leona, a sister-in-law Cecilia "Chick" Renadette, Alan Houghton and Bobby Chagnon, whom Leon and Theresa raised as their sons, several nieces, nephews and a fury feline companion "Angel". She was a foster mom to many children and remained very close to Bill Dubuque and his companion Brenda. She will be dearly missed by her friend and neighbor, Lue Germaine. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Road in Altona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis de France Church in Sciota. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations in her memory to Hospice of the North Country. Theresa's family is especially grateful to the many caregivers that made her end of life comfortable.
