Theresa K Smith

April 4, 1949 — May 17, 2022

Theresa “Terri” K. Smith began her new life with Jesus on May 17, 2022, at age 73, after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed at the UVM medical center with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Moriah center, NY on April 4, 1949, the daughter of Peter and Margaret Kelly.

Terri graduated from Elizabethtown High School. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker who supported her husband throughout his 20 year Air Force career. She worked at Direct Mailworks in Plattsburgh, the Adirondack Pennysaver in Plattsburgh, and in the CVPH staffing office from which she retired in 2012.

Terri was truly a special, amazing person; full of life and vitality. She would put a smile on the face of anyone she met and always strived to brighten their day and lighten their load. Everyone was important to her. She loved the outdoors whether working in the gardens, trimming fence lines, clearing more land or shoveling snow. She always had projects to work on from painting inside and out to building a stone wall. She hated to miss a Yankees game. She loved life and loved spending time with her family and her “adopted” family, the Whites.

She and her daughter shared a true bond of sisterhood. They talked every day, plotting, planning, scheming and laughing to the point of tears. She and her son-in-law shared a special bond through music. They loved Lady Gaga and Neil Diamond. Terri had that naturally mischievous personality and she loved shenanigans.
She made the world a better, brighter place and brought so much joy and so much cheer to those of us around her. She was a true inspiration and a wondrous ray of sunshine. The pain her family feels at her loss cannot be measured.

Terri is survived by her husband of 54 years Noel (Smitty); her daughter Melanie and husband Barry White; sisters Kathy Simpson (Howard); Genie Albert (Robert); Mary Greene (Percy); brother James (Karen); numerous nieces and nephews; and her grandpets, two dogs and five cats.

Predeceasing her were her parents; three sisters and two brothers.

The family extends our heartfelt appreciation to the amazing staffs of the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, the CVPH Interventional Radiation Department and the UVM Medical Center ICU. The compassionate care they provided gave great comfort to Terri and her family.

As Terri desired, there will be no calling hours or services. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Fitzpatrick Center, the Interventional Radiation Department, or the Elmore SPCA.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
