Mr. Thomas M. Coffin, Sr., 87, formerly of Terrace West, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH with family by his side. He was born in Georgetown, Delaware on August 9, 1929, the son of the late Thomas Clark and Thelma Christine (Records) Coffin. Thomas served in the U.S. Air Force and was involved in the Berlin Airlift and Rescue Missions over Vietnam and retired after 25 years of service. He was a member of the American Military Retirees Association, a life member of V.F.W. Post 125 and was a coach for the Special Olympics. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nina (Gavrian) Coffin, his children; Carolyn Spivey of Florida, Theresa Beyer of Dayton, Ohio, Thomas Coffin Jr. of Plattsburgh, Meg Wilkinson of Plattsburgh, his twin sister; Frances Illian of Georgia, his grandchildren; Jason Guernsey, Rachel Brady, Jeremy Guernsey, Jeremy Coffin, Justus Wilkinson, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter Elaine Coffin, and a sister Naomi Beebe. Calling hours will be held on Saturday October 22, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel on U.S. Oval, a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be offered to North Country Honor Flight, P.O. Box 2644, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
