Thomas Frederick Gregware, 69, of Tom Miller Rd. passed away on Saturday February 25, 2023. He died at his home in Lutz, Florida with his family by his side.
Thomas was born in the city of Plattsburgh on October 2, 1953 to Patricia(Murray) and John Gregware. He was the middle child with an older sister Viki and younger brother Jamie.
Thomas was very active as a young man. He attended Beekmantown Central where he was on the football team. He was a daredevil on his motorcycle. He loved to go hunting with his dad and uncle. He enjoyed spending time in his boat on Lake Champlain.
His first place of employment was at Garrand’s car dealership as the parts manager. Then he worked at the Plattsburgh City Fire Department as a dispatcher ending his career of 33 years with the New York State Corrections. Most of his time was spent at Altona Correctional Facility. After he retired from corrections, he managed his apartment houses. He became a snow bird spending half the year in Florida with his family and grandchildren, as well as some beloved friends he made along the way who made it a home away from home.
Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bonnie. His daughter Jena (Daniel) Breen and two beautiful grandchildren Aiden and Avery Breen. His sister Viki Chevalier (Jimmy) and brother Jamie (Kathy) Gregware, as well as, many nieces and nephews. Also, a special cousin Tammy Fessette and Abby.
He was predeceased by his parents Patricia and John Gregware.
Donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Elmore’s SPCA.
Arrangements are in care of Brown Funeral Home, Broad St. Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be March 16 from 4pm to 6pm. On March 17 there will be a Mass at 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory Church. Following the Mass, there will be a reception at the Butcher Block at 12:30pm. All are welcome to celebrate Tom’s life with his family. Burial will be in the spring at Saint Mary’s of the Lake cemetery.
