Mr. Thomas J. Matton, 56, of McCormick Road in Chateaugay and formerly of Altona, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at his home with family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Plattsburgh on November 9, 1958, the son of Darrell E. and Shirley (Rabideau) Matton. As a teenager, Tom was a member of Altona Boy Scout Troop 58 and became an Eagle Scout. He was employed as a Corrections Officer for 24 years and retired from Bare Hill Correctional Facility. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was an organizer of the annual Bare Hill Golf Tournament for many years. Tom was an avid Montreal Canadiens and San Francisco 49ers fan. He is survived by two sons and a daughter in law; Jesse and Tori Matton of Lyon Mountain, Clint Matton of Chateaugay, his mother Shirley Matton and companion Stanley Case of Plattsburgh, a brother Timothy Matton of Las Cruces, N.M., two sisters; Diana and Roger DuBray of Plattsburgh, Carla and Tim Preiss of Shreveport, La., his grandchildren; Hunter and Payton, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Darrell E. Matton in 2003. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Road in Altona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will follow in the family plot in Holy Angels Cemetery.
