Thomas Edward O'Meara, son of the late Edward and Reta (Jacques) O'Meara passed away Friday, August 8, 2014, with his family by his side. Tom married Constance Carolyn Lester on March 18, 1961, at Our Lady of Victory in Plattsburgh, NY. As a young man, Tom served his country in the United State Army. He was a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Plattsburgh Elks Club, Moose Club, and American Legion. Tom was employed by the NYS Department of Corrections for 32 years before retiring in 1988. Not one to be idle, he then drove a school bus for the Plattsburgh City School District for 10 years taking great pride and enjoyment in this role with area children, many with special needs. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, taking great pride watching his grandchildren play in sporting events and other activities. Tom also took tremendous pleasure from his daily drives around Cumberland Head where he loved the view of the lake, visiting the horses by the ferry, and spending time at his "summer home" on Lake Champlain. Most of all he enjoyed the company of those he loved and called family and friends. Tom delighted in simple things throughout his life including boating on the lake, riding his Honda "Goldwing", and driving his white sports car. He valued life, friends and family and in his quiet way, sought to bring happiness to many. Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, infinite wisdom, and good natured personality. He will be missed tremendously. In addition to his wife, Connie, of 53 years, Tom is survived by his son, Michael Patrick O'Meara and his wife Teri of Plattsburgh, his daughter, Kathleen Anne (O'Meara) Clancy and her husband Kevin of Gloucester, MA, his grandchildren who were the light of his life Nicholas, Daniel, Holly and Timothy O'Meara and Neville Clancy, and his first cousin, Jane (Devlin) Lanigan. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Carleton, and his sister, Shirley. Calling hours will on Tuesday, August 12, from 3-5 PM followed immediately by a Memorial Service at Brown's Funeral Home and a graveside service at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a reception at the Elks Club after the services. Donations can be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at 75 Beekman Street whose entire staff provided loving care to Tom during his short illness with cancer. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. (518)-561-3980. Online condolences may be made at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
