Veronica Rothermel

Veronica “Ronnie” Rothermel, 94, of Colligan Point Road, Cumberland Head, NY, passed away at her home with her family by her side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Dannemora, NY on July 4, 1928 the daughter of Nelson and Nellie (LaRocque) LaJoie.

She graduated from Dannemora High School and Plattsburgh Business Institute. She worked as a Bank Teller at Merchants National Bank, later the State Bank of Albany. She then went on to work at the Treasurer from the Plattsburgh City School District, retiring after 25 years. Ronnie was a founding member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church and member of the church choir. Later she became a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

Ronnie married Donald Rothermel on June 28, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. They had two children, Patti Joy and Peggy Ann (Mark Allan Neal, Sr.). Eight grandchildren, Jason Nye (Elena), Sean Nye, Amanda Neal, Mark Neal, Jr., Alexander Neal, Isaiah Neal, Riccarda Dore and Anna Neal. Great-grandchildren, Aiden Nye, Grace Neal, Carter Neal and Legend Neal and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Patti Joy, her husband Donald, in-laws, Aurore LaJoie, Valeda Shatraw, Theresa LaPointe, Rita Dugan, Lawrence LaJoie, and Frances Latinville.

Calling hours will be at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY, Friday, November 4, 2022, from 10:30 to 12:30 pm. A Mass will follow at 1:00 pm at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
