Viola E Hazen

Chazy Mrs. Viola E. "Charlie" Hazen, 74, of State Route 9 in Chazy, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at her home with her family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in West Chazy, New York on February 18, 1938, the daughter of Dennis and Evelyn (Matott) Yelle. Charlie and her husband Ronald owned and operated Hazen's Ice Cream Bar in Chazy for over 20 years. In her younger years she had worked at CVPH Medical Center, Chazy Orchards and Kimpex for many years and at most recently she was the cook at the Weathercock in Chazy where everyone enjoyed her home cooking. Charlie enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, baking and enjoyed decorating for the holidays and spending time with her family. She was a Life Member of the VFW Post #1466 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Charlie is survived by her children and their spouses; Bruce and Juanita Hazen of Jacksonville, Fl., Lori and George Provost of West Chazy, Shawn and Danny Brunell of Ellenburg Depot, her siblings; Priscilla Dragoon, Joseph and Carol Yelle, Linda and Raymond Duprey, Shirley and Jay Gonyo, Barbara and Rolland Jubert, Tony Yelle, six grandchildren; Mason, Tyler and Shane Hazen, Kevin and Jenn Provost, Danielle Provost, Brooke Brunell, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and her canine companion Pepper. Her husband Ronald J. Hazen, passed away June 15, 2011, her parents, three sisters; Martha Bushey, Caroline Defayette and Eleen Miller and a brother Clifford Yelle. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy. Memorial donations may be offered to Hospice of the North Country or the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
